Clans of NTW the time has come to unfurl your banners and bring forth your soldier’s, for glory and renown awaits on the field of battle, we present the Napoleonics Trophy.

The 1st of September is [N]s 1 year anniversary , to celebrate we have decided to organise a tournament for the NTW community. Yes relationships have been strained of late but we see this as a positive step so the tournament is open to ALL ntw clans and their respective members, let’s play this tournament in a spirit of good will and healthy competition.

Much to the regret of our officer’s[ N] will not take part in the inaugural Napoleonics Trophy, we will organise and supervise the tournament. If the event is a success we hope it will remain a mainstay in the community and we look forward to challenging the eventual winners in future tournaments.

A separate site/forum is being set up and will be formally presented by Dury in the upcoming week(s). Once the formal presentation is made participants can officially register and throw their names into the hat.

We are currently working on the structure and format of the tournament and have provincially agreed to the following, note some of the details below could change between now and the formal presentation.

Format:

16 teams with 2 participants in each team (depending on participation can be more or less)

Clans can enter as least 2 teams minimum (Any increase/decrease depends on participation numbers as we would like all ntw clans to participate)

Battle’s will be 2v2

Plan is to have a live draw on the [N] chat – Teams from the same clan will avoid each other in the first round.

Battle’s will consist of best of 3, Attack/Defend and a third battle which will be neutral with no onus on any team to attack or defend. It is upto the participants to force a result (We are compiling a list for suitable maps for Attack/Defend and Neutral)

Attacker gets pick of 1st faction, In the neutral 3rd match as things are even: we sense there will be arguments for pick of faction. If this be so then France and Britain (most popular) will not be available for choice. (Subject to scrutiny - We are discussing this, Please add your opinion)

Rules :
2v2
20 K games, 10k per player.
Gen is Gen
No embedded Artillery
No General Sniping
GM on should a team wish to play with it, though it is acceptable to play with GM off should the two teams come to an agreement between themselves. If there is no agreement then GM on takes precedent.

Results posted on the N trophy forum with the winners sending a replay to the Officiator to verify the win and rule on any possible disputes.

Games should have a definite finish and we hope games are played in a honourable manner. If a game crashes and one side feels victory was inevitable (example - mopping up a few units and game crashes) then a replay can be sent for adjudication but it would be ideal for all concerned that a definitive result be reached in all battles. Remember to save replays from the temp folder if a replay cannot be saved from the results screen.

The winner’s will be presented with a prize from Dury to commemorate the winning of the tournament along with minor prizes for categories such as best commander.

Please leave any suggestions or points of notice.

A formal presentation will be made in the coming week/weeks by MD, keep a look out.

We hope this will be met with enthusiasm as we are working hard behind the scenes to make this work, go and talk to your comrades and please sharpen your sabres, polish the artillery, saddle the cavalry and come in full battle dress with your banners held high, ready to enter the field of battle.

Best Regards

N

Good post Lannes. The format looks sane and has some obvious good thinking and planning behind it. I look forward to this with much anticipation.

Nice idea LL could be great fun,
Two things come to mind at first glance,
In the interest of as even a playing field as possible, does anyone see a need to make certain factions not available for this event ???? France especially and maybe Brits ??
Secondly something that may cause some vigorous debate is the rule that a number of clans who much prefer to play there games GM off may be forced to play GM on,
I don't happen to be in such a clan and much prefer GM on, but this may be a problem ??
Not trying to be negative here, as i said NICE IDEA

Hello LL, as Moopere and Dougie both say : Great idea.....BUT

I know this will sound very negative, but you will have to forgive me - I've seen so many things like this in the last two years, and as far as I know known of them end up working.

I will encourage NBC to put in a couple of two man teams, if anyone is interested, but I'll not be taking part myself, for the following reasons :

1. The current faction prices are "wrong" and do not give an even match of same skilll v same skill. For example : Who will pick any faction other than France to attack with knowing then that the defenders will pick France ?.

2. The problem of getting FOUR players to agree to be in the same place at the same time - very very hard to do.

3. The nature of this "competition" will, I'm sure, lead to a "win at all costs" attitude with many, which means two things :
a. The never ending arguements about broken rules.
b. The MASS melee (with or without GM) 20 minute game that is the "easy" way to win.

I hope at least four NBC players will take part, but I'm not interested in the kind of games this will generate myself.....but the best of luck with it, I hope it works out well.

Actually, I'm gonna agree with Gunner, I honestly can't be arsed into playing this. And tbh, SVK is not large enough to field four players (nearly 2/3s of our force!)

Most of SVK have too much going on in RL to be arsed with this too, school is starting for many, and work loads getting bigger.

I understand your concern Gunner and I know what you are talking about. Nevertheless, if every project is doomed to be unsuccesfull whats the point keeping the community alive.

In the past I organised several projects and only one of them succeeded half, and indeed its about the people.

Some go to battle with honour and accept the rules and play as good as they can and enjoy the game to the most, and some stop after one round trowing the towl in the ring and blame whatever reason they can use to defend their defeat.

With this in mind I still wanted to organise the [N]Trophy, as I believe this community has still alot of potential and commanders that are willing to play, nevertheless the outcome.

With this tournament I want to bring forward the commanders and clans that are willing to participate and help to build a new NTW community, where having fun is the main thing, where respect and dignity are the main rules, where no swearing is done, where people can discuss on civil manner their ideas or perspectives.

Gunner you more then anyone else know what I am talking about. Participating at this tournament is symbolic, you don't have to do it for me nor the [N], but if you do (and I am sure you will, personally or with teams) do it because you believe we can make a new community where respect and dignity are the standards. Where people or clans that organise their projects get a fair chance of succes without being critised before its get launched.

If we lose this, whats the point playing this fantastic game, and after all where will be the fun..........

Its time to set a new route and make our choices, we can only show the way but if you follow thats up to you.

Lol, nice to be a cadet for a change

Gentlemen,

We hope to see as many people participate as possible. If we cannot organize a simple tournament between us, like Dury said what is the point of all this community or trying to unite...
The rules might not be to everybody's liking but they are the rules of the touranment. If there is no agreement GM will be on, if both parties agree GM will be off. I personally will never play GM off anymore as i am tired of RTW style NTW2 games. GM ON is the solution to that. With GM ON, britain is as good as france, mass charges will fail, so the stamina of the french will be counterbalanced by the excellent shooting of the british. I would not rule out other factions either. Maybe no one will pick brunswick but Russia, prussia, austria to name a few are very playable, and have as good a chance of being successful if used in the right way as france or britain do.
Let us not think too much about this and complicate things, let's just enjoy it.... It will be fun, exciting and Dury has bought really nice prizes to entice you even further.

@Jakob

You do not have to field 4 players, you can field one team if you want, we were just saying that clans will at least be allowed to field 2, and if there is more room maybe 3 teams, but if you do not have the means to field 2 teams then field 1.

So what is the prize of winning this thing? A chance to play N in the finals?

And why an N trophy? If its about the community shouldn't it be the NTW trophy or something?
