Straight from the TWC, news of TROM v1.63 - I highly recommend reading this: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=303994 to get a firm idea of the TROM methodology and the 'why' of decisions made by the design team.

Basic Stuff
================================================================
I suggest the following packages to make a satisfying TROM/ETW experience:

The Rights of Man v1.63 Part 1
The Rights of Man v1.63 Part 2
The Rights of Man Media Pack

All available here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=259213

as well as:

Ornamentum for TROM v1.6x

Available here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=5897635#post5897635

and the Lordz Map Pack:

ETW map-pack

Available here: http://thelordz.org/mods.html
================================================================

MultiPlayer Suggestions

In order to successfully play MP games together we need to use the same group of mods and they need to be loaded in the exact same order.

The files you will need in your data directory are: (c:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data)

Code:
trom_ornamentum.pack         14/10/2009 10:36pm
trom_flags.pack               7/07/2009  4:22pm
trom_media.pack              27/04/2009 12:32pm
trom_battlesounds.pack       15/07/2009  8:45pm
trom_blood_smoke_light.pack  13/10/2009 11:18pm
LMCmapmod_29092009.pack      29/09/2009  9:11pm
trom_core_part_1.pack        15/10/2009  3:23pm
trom_core_part_2.pack        10/10/2009  1:54pm
trom_text.pack               13/10/2009  9:38pm

Please check each files date and time stamp. All files should have the time/date shown above (Mine is in English date format but you get the idea).

Script Users
If you like to use a script file I suggest your script file looks like this (Most users will not want this, they will prefer the Mod Manager version, see below):

Code:
mod "trom_ornamentum.pack";
mod "trom_flags.pack";
mod "trom_media.pack";
mod "trom_battlesounds.pack";
mod "trom_blood_smoke_light.pack";
mod "LMCmapmod_29092009.pack";
mod "trom_core_part_1.pack";
mod "trom_core_part_2.pack";

A pre-made script to load the above is here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/i2bn7g

ModManager Users
If you prefer to use Mod Manager to launch your mods then you should order and run their ETW as follows:

================================================================
Just a note that a new TROM version is out: v1.63

Note that you will also need to install part 2, as this contains modifications to the campaign starting posistions. It is save game compatible, but the changes will only take effect when you start a new campaign.

Changelog
Code:
v1.63
* Bugfix: Death's Head Hussars require Light Cavalry Doctrine
* Bugfix: All Line Infantry can build fortifications
* Bugfix: fixed CTD caused by Indian Native Cavalry and Swedish Provincial Infantry
* Campaign startpos.esf file update: edited starting units (fixed inconsistencies with unit sizes, added heavy cavalry units) - SAVE GAME COMPATIBLE, but changes only take effect with new campaigns
* Added Full, Medium, and Light versions of Battle Smoke and Blood mod (enable through ModManager)
* Removed Spanky's Militia Mod (can still be added separately as it is fully compatible)
* Integrated parts of Brightworks mod (by Reiksmarshal) and Headwear fix (by Ahiga)
* Modified some unit stats (mostly inconsistencies with armor values and abilities)
* Removed Fire & Advance for all units (except AOR Marines)
* Early Ottoman Infantry reclassified as "Line Infantry" so that the Ortas are numbered in campaign; they do not get the European drills
* Increased cost of all units in Custom Battles to about 75% of vanilla ETW values
* American Indian cavalry use new horse model
* Added 6-lber Foot Artillery for European nations, other Foot Artillery has slightly higher building requirements.
* Alignment of file structure for compatibility with ETW 1.5 patch
* Cavalry more effective: tires less quickly, higher bonus against infantry, increased unit size to 80 (100 for irregular cavalry)
* Hessian Infantry can only be recruited in major American provinces
* Added backpacks for Provincial Infantry for more variety
* Militia range reduced to 90
* Marines unit size increased to 120
* Native Auxiliary warriors and archers available to Britain
* Modified recruitability of Pikemen (Sweden and Russia)
* All missile cavalry can fire on the move
* Carabiniers use carbines, with limited ammo
* New unit descriptions and icons for Ottoman light artillery

Here here :D

Just in case you miss it at the NBC Moo, both Frog and i failed to get your Magic batch file to launch.
We both had the batch file window open for only a split second and then nothing.
Our downloads are correct as we launched fine with MM and joined MP no problem.
Cheers DJ :wink:

I've replied back at the NBC thread. My guess is that its Vista related. I'll modify my post above to make it XP only then investigate whats going on. I've tested the thing against a couple of XP machines here and am reasonably satisfied it works on XP. I should really get a copy of Vista and Windows 7 as there are big numbers of both out there now.

Can someone please let me know where Vista/Windows 7 installs ETW? On XP its here:

c:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war

I should find out if its the same for both Vista/7 32bit as well as 64 bit so anyone with any of these systems please respond and I'll fix the Magic TROM launcher to work on all systems.

In the mean time, anyone with Vista or Windows 7 please use Mod Manager.

Cheers, M.

Cheers DJ.

Hello again Moo,

OK Frog is on XP so no idea about that.

The files from the batch
copy_icon.bat
Empire Total War.ico
Start TROM
start_TROM.bat

End up in the place they are supposed to go :D
c:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war

But as already discussed ETW in Viata 64 bit is installed at
c:\program files(86)\steam\steamapps\common\empire total war

From a layman's view point this looks like the problem to me :D

Cheers DJ

DJ, Do you get a Start TROM icon on your desktop? If not, can you please let me know where your desktop is? Mine is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Desktop

Thanks,
Moo

Yes Moo i get the desktop icon :D

Even more interestingly i have downloaded and launched the APE mod "wait for it" :D using a "batch file" :shock:

I had a look for the same APE files as Troms
copy_icon.bat
Empire Total War.ico
Start TROM
start_TROM.bat
in c:\program files(86)\steam\steamapps\common\empire total war
There are a number of APE files in there but couldn't pin down anything similar to the above.
Must be there somewhere i guess, maybe just labelled differently ??

Anyway clearly the APE team know how to use a batch file for Vista :D

Cheers DJ.

Yes, to give the APE:TI team their due, I did steal the idea of launching ETW via run time variables directly from them. APE:TI uses a proper installer to install the mod and the launcher which is pretty elegant. Hopefully we'll soon be able to do the same.

Regards, M.

Funny, I played TROM for months before I switched over to Tac War, now everyone is going back, but I'm not playing ETW much, I'm just waiting for LG and maybe NTW, atm, I'm playing the oldies like Crown of Glory and other 2D games. Starting to go back to my good old Cossacks 2

We had little choice here fella, Tac War is out of order, so we had to find an alternative, and we did, its Trom, its far from perfect but we are having fun :wink:

On reflection Gunner you may be right, perhaps ""its not perfect"" would be nearer too what i feel about Trom. :wink:
