Hey, I've got MP problems. My steam works fine. But when I enter the game it doesn't let me join or host mp battles. I don't have any problems what so ever with connections and firewalls. I can chat with people on steam it's just that it won't let me join or host. I can see other peoples games but can't join. It's been happening for about a couple of months. Can someone please help!!!!

I'd be worried that you can't host. Very suspicious. What happens when you try? Any error messages?

Sound like you are not actually logged into Steam. Have you been successfully able to get the latest patches? No problems there?

Are you using something (mod ???) SP that is messing up your MP ?.

One thing (after v1.3) is that you can not play with the Lordz map pack UNLESS everyone also has it. I can only guess it's something like this that is stopping you play MP.

I would say it might be worth un-installing and re-installing....then update with steam.....a total new start.

Yes I have tried reinstalling. My steam connection is fine, I have patch 1.3 and its fine and I only have 4 mods going at the moment:
The Lordz Map Pack
Blood Mod
Smoke mod
Releastic flag mod.

But I have had these problems before I downloaded these mods. It's driving me nuts.

Pull the mods mate, I'd say its related to those. You can ask Steam to validate your game files as well which I do from time to time when things go 'funny' as a result of playing about with mods.

Once you've got a working vanilla ETW you can put the mods back in

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong,
but if you have these mods and others whose games you wish to join, do not have them, even if it was only one of them, then you will have incompatibility problems ???

Mind you what ever mods are present you should be able to host your own game, so there is another issue somewhere.

Get rid of the mods for Lords sake, how can you expect this thing to work with mods that were made before the last CA patch - that kills everything dead.

There is no point in people logging on and expecting MP to work if they have all kinds of weid and wonderfull stuff installed.

You need the SAME as the people you intend to play against, anything else is wasting your time and other peoples time.....sorry if this sounds a bit harsh but people have to "get" with it and stop complaining that steam/empire does not work MP when they have stuff installed that should not be there.

Yes but if you read it properly I said I had these MP problems long before I ever had any mods for anything. But never the less, I will pull all the mods out to see what happens.

Hello, sorry about that, I was having a very bad day !........if you have the standard Empire installed and upto date - it has to work......if it does not work (MP) then I can only assume it is something to do with your internet connection/firewall etc etc.

As far as I know, their is no problem with internet connections or firewalls. I have pulled the mods but still no go! It used to work but not anymore. Damn!

So what DOES happened when you try to play MP ?......I've not heard of anyone else being UNable to play MP.

I am able to enter the MP room but not able to create or join and MP battles. Thats it. It comes up with either; Unable to Join Game or Unable to Host Game

But I have finnaly got MP up and running. It turns out that it wasn't just ETW but all MP games as well including NTW2. It was a code in the firewall. I had to change the games status from false to true.
So I have joined CaW and look foward to fighting you men
