Frog has suggested (on ETW forum) a new steam group for players using the Grogs mod - not a bad idea at all, but in a way the nwg group is that, but, then again, it's not really, as it has over 200 people in it and how many of them will be using the Grogs mod ?.....not many I'd guess.....so frog's idea of a NEW steam group for those using the Grogs mod might be the best solution.

What should it be called ?....Grogs mod group ?.....not sure about that myself....how about :

ntw Group

as it's really Empire changed to be like ntw2 was - as much as can be so far.

In my humble opinion we'd do just as well to cover this situation as an existing part of the NWG otherwise we just divide and subdivide further an already small community. If we keep the mods that different NWG members use visible by talking about them here and also over at the Steam end then I suspect we're far more likely to inform and gather new players.

However, if you are worrying a bit about just confusing the larger membership base with a 'beta' mod, perhaps its the right thing to do after all.

Cheers,
M.

This was my first thought as well, but.......

That's already happened - if someone has the grogs mod, and that's what they want to use, they want to be able to arrange games using that with others who have it.

Frog and Conq have both said roughly the same thing, and I believe they have a very good point.

Could be, but nwg has over 250 members, most of who don't even play Empire MP as far as I can tell, and most of who never use the chat room.

Confusing, yes, it may be....people want to know how they can get a MP game, if they log into the nwg chat room, and no one else there is using the mod they have - it's not working very well.

Sooner or later the old ntw2 community will switch to this as it's so much better than the standard......so it may sort it's self out as time time takes it's course.

The other thing would be for nwg to RECOMMEND the grogs mod, and encourage all nwg members to use it....but that's not so easy as it sounds.

that was the reason i suggested making nwg steam group private. I knew something like that would happen sooner or later if nwg steam gets so crowded everyday without communication... and the result is a new room for ntw2/grog mod users. I know there s nothing much to now, a new room seems to be the best choice :( sure i wont hesitate to join when it s formed.

Before we recommend a single mod we should probably try some of the other contenders. One that comes to mind is Darths Mod. Darths tends to go for realism and gameplay but retain the original time period, so unless the Grogs are aiming their mod at Napoleonic times I'd say we should definitely look at each mod's merits before recommending one or the other as the 'official' NWG mod :)

Regards, M.

Fair point Moopere, but I don't have the time (or interest) to test drive all these mods out there, that is part of the ptoblem.....if I find one I like and it's being used by people I "know" then that's good enough for me.

I'm not about to start wasting my time playing anything with a load of Empire strangers, after all this time, when we have a (on the whole) decent known Community....why abandon that now ?.......if the grogs mod is better than Empire, and almost everyone thinks it is - where's the problem ?.

I started the topic to talk about a meeting place for those that do want to use the grogs mod.

I think someone has mentioned the following point before, :?:
It seems most modders are pretty happy to share there work around, so hopefully we will end up with the Grogs mod using the best of what is out there.
I'm the same as Gunner i haven't had a look at anything else thats going on , i guess i feel it will be the work of the folks from the NTW community that is most likely to give us what we are looking for.

Hello there,

I beleive that it's too early to do anything about gathering the NTW into a single project/mod.
I was very enthousiastic about the Grog's job, but still today ETW is facing many problems either in SP or multi, so CA will have to sort that out through a serie of patches which might affect any mods.

So i guess we better be patient, try to meet for some battles with that mod, then we'll see what's happened within a few weeks.

When things are settled, it will be nice to create a new Group or having a strong Mod encouragement into the nwg group.
But as Moop is stating, today the Grogs project needs to be structured, stay on a fixed version for a few month at least so we can get many people to load & appreciate it. Then it will be possibly improved within that "NTW Grog-mod" community.

we're starting to see more people using the nwg steam chat room, which is perhaps all that's needed for now......I'd not mind a "new" steam group for the grogs mod OR stay with the nwg - not too bothered one way or the other - as long as we meet somewhere.

Yep i agree it doesn't matter where we all meet as long as its somewhere.
What are the chances of a new place being instantly successful with lots of folks there ?????
That certainly didn't happen with the NWG.
We have made a start already here and things are moving forward, although fairly slowly .

That's good news to see the mods makers using the nwg chat room on steam, it should make arranging games easier - with more people in the same place.
