This all looks excellent to me, very exciting times ahead.....these changes look to be perfect - for what I'd like to see.

I'll be very surprised if there is any problem with this.

Great stuff.

I'm really hoping to get the first 'beta' out this coming weekend so that a few games can get played and last moment changes made as a result of serious and varied play testing. I'm fully aware that if I don't get this (last) version of CB out in the world in a usable way very soon then it will become a lost opportunity as ETW/LG fever will likely overtake all of us very soon now.

To that end, could anyone interested in 'beta' testing the latest version of CB please post either here or by giving me a PM? Normally I put up beta versions on the Corps-Battles wiki site, but in the past this has just led to community confusion and problems in the lobby.

This time around I want to restrict the beta to those with a strong interest and those who feel confident in getting an untested CB up and running without destroying their existing CB32 or NTW2 set up.

When the new beta is ready to go I'll email the files out to those who have indicated an interest here. Once the bugs are worked out the final version will be put up on the wiki site with full instructions as normal.

Best regards,
Moopere

Please count me in, the normal version games seem a bit "dead" to me recently, and CB is so much more interesting, so I'll test it out as best I can.......

May I suggest the install instructions are :

1. Make a COPY of CB32 and call it CB321
2. Bring in the new files to the CB321 data folder
3. Copy the CB32 shortcut and change it to read CB321

and that's it - done and ready to go.......I ask please if possible to keep the instructions simple, a lot of people "turn off" when they see a page full of instructions when three lines will do the job.

Ce told me last night he spent THREE hours trying to install it - this has to be changed, it's no good people spending that long over something that should take TEN minutes maximum, and still not get it working.

This has been a problem all the way along. Folks with good PC skills don't have any issues because they can 'comprehend' whats going on from reading the instructions page even though most will do it their own way. Those with very poor PC skills are successful also because they follow each step and it works. Its the folks in the middle who have the most trouble because they try to second guess the instructions.

I don't know what to do to be honest. PC veterans will work it out regardless but I don't want to leave PC newbies out of the loop. Perhaps it might be best to offer a few variations on the install instructions:

1) Link to instruction page for newbs
2) Simplified instructions for others
3) Just the basic files for experts.

As I've suggested in other posts - I'm happy to accept submissions from the community that I can cut-n-paste into the wiki as further instructions. Also very happy to accept languages other than English.

Cheers, M.

Hi M,
I'm available for testing
Hmmmmmmmm the download instructions thing is tricky :?
Basically the actual process is pretty straightforward, sadly when it all gets put down in text, as it needs to be for folks with low PC skills. (i still fall into this category)
It can look complicated and anything but straightforward.

I know, its a nightmare for anyone fresh...they look at the page and say ahhhhhhhhhhrrrggg

I've got to be careful though, one of the main things I was trying -not- to do was corrupt folks existing working NTW2 set ups. If installing CB ended up with a reputation for destroying NTW2 in the process that would be the worst possible result.

My inclination then is to leave the basic (but long) instructions essentially as they are now. The worst that can probably happen here is that you just don't get CB working....at least NTW2 continues to function.

If someone can have a think about a really straightforward 1-5 step process that might be usable for those struggling with the super long and confusing page I'll happily post it up on the wiki page as an alternate install instruction and will of course attribute that work to the person who contributes it.

Likewise anyone who can do a small and functional instruction aimed at folks who are comfortable with tweaking their PC's but in French or German or Italian, etc that would be great.

Cheers, M.
