Hello Folks.

Well, I'm quite pleased and amazed at the difference a decent patch can make. Nothing is ever perfect, but 1.3 in my view is a _massive_ improvement in the vanilla game.

Now, mostly the NWG crew appears to favour the NBG mod of ETW, but vanilla is not without its players, so, in the early days we all pretty much agreed that ETW was balanced far too poorly to be played properly without some restrictions and rules. How do we feel today after the 1.3 patch?

I'm thinking particularly of rocket/mortars and spikes.

In my view rockets and mortars have now been nerfed enough to consider allowing them back on the field. Perhaps they should have their numbers limited to 1-2 (rather than spam at 4-6) or perhaps leaving it completely open is ok? After all, anyone who field 6 mortars will be seriously short of everything else.

I'm not not at all keen on battlefield spikes. My main objections are: speed of deployment of said spikes which seems way way way too quick to me, and the fact that you often can't really see them, which is a graphics problem rather than a tactical one.

Whats the thoughts?

Regards, M.

I am very close to your opinion, Moopere.

I find again some pleasure to play ETW, although it is in SP.

I have read some doubts the correctness of the units costs.

Yes, its hard to know what is trying to be achieved. Line troops are almost the most expensive units in the game which on first glance doesn't seem right.

Then again, I also notice CA trying to balance against the actual number of soldiers as well the unit cost. Cavalry seem cheap, but then, there are only 60 men in a unit (or 80 for some). Line is expensive but there are 160 of them. I'd do it differently, but I have to admit it seems to promote a reasonably balanced army even it not a completely historical one.

Cheers, M.

I do agree it's a lot better, but for me I'm not interested in it for "proper" play.

At the moment I'm having a few games to "test" stuff, but that's it.
