ntw2 Map Descriptions - updated 01/09/08.

1 101Hills - Medium undulating ground with lots of cover and woods.
2 102Hills - Undulating ground with lots of cover and some small woods.
3 1815 QuatreBras - Mostly flat undualting countryside featuring the farm at Germioncourt. It has some heavily wooded areas on the attackers left.
4 Aboukir - A flatish coastal desert map with the sea to the defenders rear. There are some villages and redoubts for cover.
5 AlongTheCoast (v2) v2 of the standard map witj large area's of forest removed. A very difficult hilly map. Some very steep hills make movement difficult,
6 Atrition - Large areas flat ground but with some big difficult to attack hills, there all lots of features on the map which can make movement hard in places.
7 Belgium 1- Flat map with a large wood in the attackers side and many cornfields.
8 Belgium 2 - Flat map with a large wooded area on the defenders right and rocky ground in the rear.
9 Belgium 3 - Very flat featureless battlefield with some higher ground on the attackers right, ideal for Cavalry and artillery.
10 Belgium 4 - Undulating countyside with a small wooded hill on the defenders right and a small lake at the front left.
11 BigCreek - Undulating open style map with a deep muddy creek running across it. Defend the creek or not ?.
12 BigHill - Very large hill dominates on the attackers right side but other smaller hills on defenders side
13 BigRock - Flat map with large low rocky ground between the deployment zones and thick broken woods in attackers zone.
14 Blenheim - A good open map with some flat / hilly terrain and some shallow water and woods.
15 Borodino (v2) - v2 of the standard map with the river crossing places made WIDER and one new crossing point added in. Still a hard to attack map but with more places to get over the river and attack the redoubts on the hills.
16 BreakTheLine - Generally flat map with good “prepared” positions on the defenders side and wooded on the attackers right.
17 Breakthrough - Some wooded areas and ditches for cover but mostly a flat and difficult for artillery movement on the attacker left.
18 Camden Village (v2) - v2 of the standard map with the river on the attackers left TAKEN out and some small changes to the high ground and forest on the defenders right.
19 City - Tricky map with a very large built up area in the centre and some high ground.
20 Coast - Rising high ground away from the sea with many small woods.
21 Cornfields - Many cornfields on this flat map with some slopes in play.
22 Countyside - Mainly flat with some large thick wooded areas and some high ground.
23 Dennewitz-1813 (v2) - v2 of the standard map with the river crossings all made wider and one new crossing point added in. The forest on the defenders hill has also been thinned out a little.
24 Desert Edge - A very well used map with higher ground on the attackers left and much open flat ground below.
25 Ditches - An open field type map with several muddy ditches in the defenders zone and some woods and villages.
26 Dry River - Very small amount of water and two long “dry” river beds each side of the map with some woods.
27 EasternValleys (v2) - v2 of the standard map with the FOREST changed in places to allow better artillery movement..
28 Egypt1 - Open desert type battlefield with a small low ridge with some trees on the defenders right.
29 Egypt2 - Open desert type battlefield with little cover except for the undulating ground
30 Egypt3 - Open desert type battlefield with some higher ground on the attackers right.
31 Egypt4 - Open and featureless desert type battlefield with no cover but the undulating ground
32 Euro10Open2 - No where to hide here except for some thick woods around the map edges. Vast open grasslands ideal for Cavalry and Artillery forces.
33 Euro1Open - Gentle undulating ground with scattered woods and a few ares of low ground including a marsh area on the defenders left.
34 Euro2Forest - A little open ground but a lot of thick forest areas. Some high ground but no big high hills to worry about.
35 Euro3River - High ground on the attacker and defenders side of the river. Five crossing places can give a chance to cross but as with all river maps it's a hard one.
36 Euro4Woods - A wooded undualating map idea for ambush type attacks with some difficult areas for artillery to move around.
37 Euro5Streams - Very open map crossed with dried up streams (no water). Some woods here and there but an very open battlefield.
38 Euro6Farms - A very simple map with vast areas of open fields and one wooded hill on the defenders left.
39 Euro7Wasteland - A flatish map with not many features except for a few small woods. A good Cavalry and Artillery map.
40 Euro8Swamp - Very large areas of flat low ground with "swamps" but no water. There are a few woods for cover between the low lying flat areas. Very exposed map good for artillery as not much cover.
41 Euro9Villages - A mostly very flat map with many villages but dominated by a low long ridge on the defenders right - not steep.
42 Eylau-1807 - Open style battlefield with not much cover (hardly any woods) but some very high ground at the defenders rear.
43 Farm Fields - A farmland type sprawling open field with hardly any cover.
44 Farmland - An open farmland type of map with some very high ground each side but no steep hills.
45 Farms - Some high ground on the defenders right but an open type battlefield with some woods.
46 Fields Of Battle - Some high ground features but mainly flat with some small woods.
47 FightingFields1 - Undulating open countryside with many woods on the attackers left.
48 FightingFields2 - Undulating open countryside with many light woods scattered across the battlefield.
49 FightingFields3 - Open country with some light and thicker woods for cover and gentle slopes.
50 Flanders Fields - Some high ground features with rock faces but mainly flat with some small woods.
51 Flat - Misleading map title, not really flat but ground rising on the defenders side.
52 Flat Open - A few woods for cover. Holding the slight high ground with the Church in the centre may win the game.
53 FlatFarms - Undulating ground with cover
54 FlatSand - Open battlefield with undulating ground and little cover.
55 Flattrees - Quite a flat map with many small light woods (scrub) to hamper movement and a small hill in the defenders rear.
56 FlatWoods - Offers a lot of hide and seek ambush chances in the many woods
57 Forest - Very good defenders map with thick wooded area and lots of high ground on both sides.
58 Fortified - High ground for the attackers but a good defence for the defenders. Try to hold the redoubts or defend further back ?.
59 GermanyDirt - A map with dirt and mud to overcome making movement slow in places. Not good for Cavalry in the muddy parts of the map.
60 GermanyFields - A open county map with many fields and little cover ideal for Cavalry and artillery
61 GermanyFlat - A generally flat(ish) map with open county good for Cavalry and artillery.
62 GermanyForest - A generally flat(ish) map with large areas of forest - very difficult map, made for Light Infantry and Rifles - good hunting.
63 GermanyHills - A gentle hilly map, open with many good defensive positions and slopes for cover from artillery fire.
64 GermanyOpen - A flat open map with wide open countyside excellent for Cavalry and artillery.
65 GermanyStreams - An undulating map with some large dry, muddy, streams (without water) that cut though the open county side.
66 GermanyTown - A flat map with a large built up area at the front of the defenders zone - fight for it or outflank it ?.
67 GermanyVillage - A flat(ish) map with small villages spread agmost the open countyside.
68 GermanyWoods - A flat(ish) map with many small woods making movement for Cavalry and artillery difficult.
69 Grass Hills - An extremely open battlefield with a town between the deployment zones and a rocky hill on the defenders left. Other than that just low rolling grass hills.
70 Grass Ridges - Wide open featureless battlefield
71 Grassland - Open type map with a combination of flat and high ground.
72 Grassy Plain - Mainly flat but with a series of small hills and mounds at the defenders rear.
73 GreatValley - Some very high ground (a real mountain !) on the defenders left makes this an extremely hard to attack map
74 GreenValley - Undulating map with not much cover with a shallow valley running through the defenders zone offering cover if defending the forward edge of the valley.
75 Greinsalz - Very hilly and wooded map. Major high ground on the attackers left covered with woods. It’s more open on the other side of the battlefield with some low ground for cover at the defenders rear.
76 Grunvaal (v2) v2 of the standard map with the RIVER REMOVED and replaced with a muddy creek on the attacker left.
77 GunsAndTrenchs - Well made but very difficult map with much high and wooded ground. Very hard to attack on.
78 Hagelburg (v2) - The FOREST on the attackers right has had a road put though it and the forest on the attackers left has been reduced in size. The map is mainly flat with some high ground in the defenders rear.
79 HeartOfPrussia - Very rough ground map with open and high rocky ground.
80 Hilltop Havoc - Generally flat map with a giant hill covered in building dominating the map centre.
81 HillyDirt - Open hilly map with some small rocky ridges and little cover except for a few light trees.
82 HillyGrass - Open hilly map with no cover except the undulating ground and a few woods.
83 HillySand - Open hilly map with a few woods and little cover.
84 HillyWoods - Extensive wooded hills with lots of cover. Tricky map for Cavalry.
85 HoldTheLine - One of the best ntw2 maps with some defensive features and much open ground.
86 Hougoumont1815 - Great looking flat map with a very large and thick wood in front of Hougoumont.
87 Hundred Hill - Very popular map with many small hills (some steep) and some woods/villages.
88 Invasion - Wooded map with lots of cover and small hills.
89 Just Grass - Wide open featureless battlefield with very little cover bar the gentle sloping ground.
90 Karlstadt - Almost a dead flat map with slightly higher ground in the defenders zone. Very heavily built up area with many buildings in the map centre. Some light and thick woods around the map edges will see plenty of action around the built up centre.
91 LaGrandeRedoute - Mainly a flat map but with a large area of high ground (a fortress ?) on the defenders left.
92 Lakes - Lots of water in the attackers zone not really in play with some high ground in the defenders rear.
93 LaMartoise - Thick woods to the attacker and defenders rear with high ground on the attackers right. Much cover in the woods and behind the hills. The attackers right will be important and will see mnay good fights for the high ground there.
94 Level Dirt - Generally open flat map with out much cover but with some small changes in elevation going some “dead” ground.
95 Level Open - Open battlefield with few features and little cover. Ideal Cavalry map.
96 Level Trees - Another open type battlefield with some small woods and tress scattered over it. Some very open areas ideal for Cavalry and some small changes in elevation.
97 Level Village - A mainly flat map with some woods / trees and villages / farms making it not as open as some other flat maps.
98 Level Woods - Flat map with many small woods.
99 LevelSand - Wide open battlefield without much cover but does have a very small rock slopes and minor undulations in height.
100 Lightwoods - Hilly battlefield mainly covered with light woods. Not a good Cavalry map.
101 Ligny - The battlefield where Napoleon beat the Prussian before Waterloo, ALL the water has been TAKEN out from the some small rivers and is generally an open map with some muddy areas where the streams have dried up.
102 Low Hills - Mainly open ground but with many low hills and a muddy small valley on the attackers left. Some very open ground and a few woods as well.
103 Lowlands - Mainly flat with some large wooded areas and high ground as you go away from the sea.
104 Marsh_NEW version - Good open map with the water now removed from it.
105 Meeting Ground - Mainly flat with some gentle sloped ground and many large woods.
106 Merenger - Fantastic map with a town in a low lying area at the defenders rear. Some small woods and hills scattered around will make for a great battlefield.
107 Merry Christmas - Undulating snow covered sloping ground map with some broken ground and little cover.
108 Millfarm - A real tough nut to crack if attacking. Water and very high steep ground make it very hard. The rest of the map is almost flat but mostly the action takes place on the hill protected by a river.
109 Neutral Ground - Very “rough” ground map that has some problems with artillery movement (bugged ?).
110 Open Dirt - Great flat / undulating map good for Cavalry action’s but with some muddy ground in the centre and some small woods on the defenders left. Attackers side has very little cover other than the slopes of the ground.
111 Open Grass - Plenty of cover with woods and loys of dips in ground elevation with some difficult muddy areas. Not a flat map but not many hill steep hills either.
112 Open Trees - Lots of light trees (scrub) around the battlefield with some small woods and gentle slopes.
113 Openfield10 OR Flatlands1 - Big open fields with some tress and woods
114 Openfield9 OR Flatlands1 - Big open fields with gentle rising ground leading to high ground in parts. Not much cover.
115 Openfields1 - Vast area of open land on the defenders side with a wooded hill on the attackers side.
116 Openfields2 - Very open battlefield with a few small woods and gentle undulating ground.
117 Openfields3 - Very open battlefield with a few woods and some high ground on the attackers right.
118 Openfields4 - A very hard map to attack on
119 Openfields5 - Similar map to the GreatRedoute in that it’s mainly flat but with high difficult to attack ground on the defenders left.
120 Openfields6 - Vast open fields with gentle rising ground leading to both attackers and defenders side. A good attackers map. Not much cover.
121 Openfields7 - An open type map with little cover and some very high steep hills.
122 Openfields8 - Very open and mostly very flat battlefield with some woods and villages.
123 OpenLand - A very open type battlefield with undulating ground and a a few medium size hills with a tricky marsh area in the defenders centre. Not much cover except for the dips in ground height.
124 OpenSand - Very good map with high ground on the attackers side.
125 Orchards - One of g24's best maps. Very flat with many “patch-work” areas of woods and light trees. Not easy for Cavalry although there is some open ground as well.
126 OverTheRidge - Desert map with a rocky ridge running between the attackers and defenders zone.
127 Pont de Lodi (v2) - V2 of the map with ALL the river crossing made WIDER and one new crossing point added. A hard one for the attacker even with the extra wide crossing points.
128 Pyramids - A flat desert map with the Gizah pyrmaids in the middle of the map.
129 QuatreBras (v2) - Open ground map with some thick woods (REDUCED IN SIZE) on the right hans side of the attackers zone. Artillery can now move on the attackers right side of the map.
130 Ravine - A large deep ravine runs across the map between and just in the deployment zones
131 Ricky Ridge - A very difficult varied height rocky ridge runs the full distance across the map with either side being generally flat and covered in many woods and orchards. Hard map.
132 Ridge - Very difficult map with a high ridge between the deployment zones. Fight for the ridge or set up further back and lose the ridge ?.
133 RiverFlat - This is generally a flat(ish) map with a wide river with shallow banks with a large Island in the river. It runs from left to right across the map and has several road crossings.
134 RiverHilly - This map contains a major river with some steep river banks and hilly terrain both sides of the river. There are some wooded areas on the hills. There are a few roads that cross this major river obstacle and trying to get over the river will be very difficult in the wrong places.
135 RiverPlain - Even being a generally flat(ish) map the river cuts it’s way through the county leaving some very steep difficult to move over river banks.
136 RiverRhine - A massive river dominates this generally flat map. It has a few road crossings but in places it has very steep river banks as the river winds it way though the surrounding countyside.
137 RiverSmall - A narrow river runs through both the attackers and defenders zone on a rather featureless map. Some low and high ground make for various gentle and steep river banks.
138 RiverStreams - Quite a flat but difficult map as several narrow streams run through it in various directions. Although there are road crossings in places this can be a difficult movement map and not suited to cavalry in many places.
139 RiverWide- A very wide river with a few road crossings will leave the defender with a lot of water front to defend and the attackers with a wide choice of where to make their move.
140 RiverWoods - A medium size river meanders it’s way though wooded countryside. Few other features on this tricky but nice looking map.
141 Rock Crop - A very flat map without much cover dominated by a large but low rocky area in the map centre. Very hard to move in the map centre but also wide open all around the feature.
142 Rocks - Hilly map with lots of “broken” ground and many woods. Difficult but interesting.
143 Rolling Hills - Generally an open low rolling hills map with a few woods and one area of depressed rocky ground on the attackers side.
144 Rossjaar - Flat(ish) map with many cornfields and a medium sized hill on the attackers right. A town and small wooded hill on the defenders right centre will see a lot of action.
145 Russia1 - Very exposed map with mostly flat(ish) ground with a wooded ditch/creek running from the attackers right to the defenders left. Very few features or cover.
146 Russia2 - Very exposed map with mostly flat(ish) ground with woods on the defenders left. Very few features or cover.
147 Russia3 - Very exposed map with mostly flat(ish) ground but some higher ground on the defenders left. Very few features and almost no cover.
148 Russia4 - Very open map with ground low on the attackers left and rising in a long gentle slope to higher ground on the attackers right. Very little cover.
149 Saalfieldflat - A gentle rise in the ground goes from low to high from the attacker to defenders side. There are some small ditches and woods but generally an exposed map.
150 Salamance-models - Very open very flat map without much cover - except for two small steep hills.
151 SchonGrabern (v2) - v2 of the standard map with some of the water TAKEN OUT making the crossing places wider and the approach to the dominating hill easier.
152 Siegeworks - A strong defensive line witha range of low hills and some rocky valleys.
153 Slopes - Gentle undulating ground with plenty of cover and woods. The ground is higher in the defenders zone.
154 Small Valley - Open countryside with a small rough Y shaped valley running from the attackers left into the defenders area. Several small woods but large areas of open country suitable for Cavalry.
155 Snow Flood - Water with many gaps between the deployment zones but is passable with care.
156 Snow Hill - Snow covered map with a large central hill and high ground at defenders rear.
157 SnowFlat - A winter - mainly flat map - with some woods and many villages
158 Sokolnitz1805 - Snow covered map with mostly flat ground rising in “steps” to the attackers rear. Very exposed on the defenders side but with very strong defensive positions near the rear of the map.
159 Steppe - Very open battlefield with undulating ground and not much cover.
160 TakeTheHills - Many low hills but mainly open type map with many woods in a part of the attackers deployment zone.
161 TakeTheHills - Not a flat map but no really big hills either. Wooded on the attackers side but a lot of open ground around the low hills.
162 The Great Crossing (v2) Same as the standard map but with ALL the river crossing places made wider.
163 Three Creeks - A great flat map with just a few areas of raised ground and some woods but dominated by three deep(ish) muddy creeks that run from the attackers side and across the defenders front.
164 Twin Ridges - A good map with some high ground features but not a severe as some of the very big hill maps. A ridge on each side of the attackers and defenders side with some light woods but generally open.
165 Two Creeks - One of the best flat maps with little cover (except the creeks) and few woods.
166 Two Ridges - The two low ridges are the main feature on an open battlefield with some woods in the centre.
167 Two Valleys - Plenty of open ground here but with two shallow valleys and some wooded areas that may make movement difficult in places.
168 Two Woods - High wooded ground North & South. Open ground in between. The defenders zone is heavily wooded and hard to attack without fighting though the trees.
169 Valley - Very hilly and wooded. A difficult movement map but some open ground as well.
170 Valley Fight - Many small hills and slopes with numerous dips and lots of “dead” ground. Quite open
171 Valley Town - Lots of open ground with slightly higher ground to the attackers right and a “step” down to lower very open ground on the attackers right. A few villages but generally an open map with not much cover.
172 ValleyDitches - Lots of clear open countyside between two areas of high ground (not in play) but broken by several ditches. Ground undulating in nature with a few low rocky slopes and broken ground.
173 ValleyFields - Lots fields and cultivated woods in between two areas of high ground (not in play). Ground undulating in nature with some difficult areas. Not the best Cavalry ground.
174 Warve (v2) The area where Grouchy engaged the Prussians before Waterloo after falling back from Lingy.The water has been TAKEN out of the stream.
175 Waterloo-1815 - A classic map that is hilly than might be expected. Not much cover and is a great defenders map.
176 Winter Plain - Snow covered exposed flat map with little cover.
177 WinterTown - Undulating map with little cover and a town in the centre.
178 WinterWoods - Snow covered sloping ground map with many woods.
179 Wojichniki - Snow covered map with high ground on the attackers left and a lake on the defenders left. Not much cover but lots of undulating ground.
180 Wooded Valley - A deep(ish) valley with small woods both sides runs from the attacker left to the defenders right. The rest of the battlefield is fairly open and undulating in nature.
181 Woods - Some flat areas but also some steep small hills with many little woods around the map.
