Hello Friends,

So, I've got enough GPU grunt to run the game it seems (8600GT, 256MB), although not enough GPU memory to run with really nice textures. Nevertheless my game is sluggish and has framerate problems....why...why....why?

Talking a bit over the last few weeks and generally monkeying around it seems very likely that I've run out of CPU power. Got a Core2Duo 2.13GHz but it really does appear that one needs at -least- 2.4GHz single core (and dual CPU cores at 2.13GHz does -not- mean I get 4.2GHz overall!!!!).

So, its driving me nuts and I take a chance. Overclock the heck out of my CPU, from 2.13GHz to 2.8GHz!!! Yeow! Big risk here men so I don't recommend everyone do this at home. I got problems with RAM speed and other issues but after fooling about all night finally I got it running stable at 2.8GHz. Its makes a big difference Gents, really, you'd be surprised.

I wanted to do this for one simple reason really, before thinking about lashing out for a new CPU and trying to decide whether I'd be better going for a mid range Quad Core (say 2.4GHz) or a higher end Dual (3.0Ghz) I wanted some reassurance that this would actually make a difference. It does. I'm not an overclocker by nature so I'll drop the speed back now and look around for good deal on a 3GHz Core2Duo I think.

Cheers, M.
