Seems to be an effort to reduce the physical size of the textures used in ETW which by implication then reduces data transfers to and from your GPU card and generally de-stresses your system overall. If you can believe half of whats been written in the thread it allows even modest PC's to use decent video settings and an overall very pleasing result visually whilst still maintaining >15-20FPS.

The guy has put it together seems to be some sort of dynamo and is producing change at a very fast rate, I'd be cautious right now as the download is >600MB and changing rapidly, however, definitely one to watch as it stabilises.

Very interesting stuff,
Anything that opens the door to more players being able to play a decent ETW MP game is positive.

At the very least I hope it opens the opportunity for players with otherwise marginal systems to perhaps now be able to play in 2v2 or 3v3 games.

We'll have to see where it goes as a mod. One thing I find interesting is that the other mods in the community could well benefit from the idea of producing less colour depth in their own skins and by so doing help the performance of their users systems as well.

Ideally CA will latch onto the idea and do something similar, though one seriously wonders why they have made the heavy weight choices they already have.
